STATEMENT ON DUKE DANCER: THE NEED FOR CRISIS PR

Friday, April 21st, 2006

STATEMENT FROM 5W PUBLIC RELATIONS ON “2nD DUKE DANCER”

“While it is accurate that we have been approached by the individual who has identified herself as the 2nd dancer, we will not be representing her nor any sides in this issue. We were approached because of our experience in crisis communications. I have been asked why she contacted us – My response: Anyone who is in the firing line of the media should contact a PR firm – The media swarms are very intimidating and scary and people should always contact media experts before speaking with the media. One shouldn’t file taxes without an accountant, enter a courtroom without a lawyer or speak to the media in a crisis situation without a PR firm,” said Ronn Torossian, CEO of 5W Public Relations.

PLAY (AND WORK) TO WIN IN PUBLIC RELATIONS

Saturday, April 15th, 2006

I found this weekend’s New York Times Magazine feature story on Christian Evangelical PR folks to be quite balanced and fair. As is well known (and I was quoted in the article), we work extensively in a number of very seemingly different, diverse worlds (i.e. Benny Hinn Ministries and Trinity Broadcasting amongst a number of others, more hip-hop/rap artists than any other PR firm in the US, and Israeli and Serbian Government officials).

How I am always asked? Because all of these diverse markets are in fact very similar – Intense, focused people who take chances to thrive in what drives them and what they believe – Much like entrepreneurs. Because we understand PR… Getting positive or more media coverage isn’t easy and takes effort, time, creativity and relationships.

We are the best at what we do because we work the hardest, because we take chances, because we are focused, and we because we won’t take no for an answer.

Being an intense basketball fan, I abhor “Four Corners” basketball – If we are winning by 20 points with a minute to go, let’s win by 30 when it’s all over.

At 5W Public Relations, we play to win – That’s a lot different than playing not to lose.
