INSPIRATION FROM A FELLOW PR PRO

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

A close friend of mine… and employee has taken to sending out daily quotes a few weeks ago to start her AM… and I have enjoyed them so much I couldn’t resist passing them along.

A small, simple action is infinitely more effective than a big, complicated excuse. Instead of putting your energy into avoiding effort, put that energy into the effort itself, and you’ll get something of value in return for it.

Just take a deep breath, sit up or stand up straight, and with a steady and confident sense of determination, get busy. Soon you’ll find yourself moving rapidly toward real and fulfilling accomplishment.

You can worry and complain about how nothing ever gets done, or you can take it upon yourself to make a real and positive difference. The moment for action is now, so get busy and convert this fleeting bit of time into an accomplishment that will bring you value for a long, long time.

TRULY IMPRESSIVE

Always know that what other people think of you is their own concern, not yours. Do what you know is right, and fully accept that others will think what they will think.

Allow the goodness that is within you to shine through your genuine courtesy, kindness, respect and consideration.

By caring so much about receiving validation from others, you prevent yourself from getting it. Instead, share your real value with those around you and that value will be clear for all to see.

Just relax and be yourself, and you’ll be truly and authentically impressive.

LIVE WITH PURPOSE…

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

True purpose has no time limit. True purpose has no deadline.

Can you feel the real purpose in your life? It is not in any hurry, and it cannot be deterred by anything.

It does not linger, but moves steadily along with you, whatever you do and wherever you go. It has no use for compromise, and finds its way forward in every situation. When you live from your purpose, you live beyond time. If you feel fear, anxiety or despair, dig deeper, for you have not yet fully connected with your true purpose.

It is now and it is always. Live with purpose, and leave the limitations behind.

A SECRET IN PITCHING THE MEDIA

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

Despite the fact that it’s Thanksgiving eve, I am proud to say that until 6 PM my office will be (80%) here today… and I hope at least 50% full on Friday (If I had it my way it’d be a work day). (We used to work all the time… and if I could mandate my office to do so, we would).
Why is that? Newspapers are published on Friday (and Saturday and Sunday)…. 24 hour news stations also run on Friday (and Saturday)…. Believe it or not, this despite the fact that it’s the day after Thanksgiving…

The world (and the news cycle) doesn’t stop simply because offices close… and the news cycle certainly doesn’t. One of the best ways I build media relationships is to pitch media… when no one else does…

… And those manning the news desks on those off days are often the most junior people… who will more often that not rise through the media… giving you a relationship and an in when others may not have one.

People ask if business success is about luck… and I think:
THE MORE HOURS I WORK, THE LUCKIER I BECOME !

EVERY INDIVIDUAL IS A BRAND

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Every individual is a brand. Every employee represents a company. Companies pay PR, marketing and advertising firms billions of dollars a year to influence consumers about their brand and ensure consumers have an affinity for the brand.

In the corporate world there is the merge of individual identities and corporate entities:

I live in the center of the world, New York City… and a recent event with Mcdonald’s has me compelled to blog about the importance of ensuring employees are properly trained (at the least) in order to ensure brands aren’t damaged:

Tuesday night had a burning desire for McDonald’s french fries. Walked into my local Upper West Side McDonald’s and ordered and paid….. and waited and waited and waited. After looking at my watch I realized 14 minutes had passed and complained. The employee behind the counter told me if I didn’t like it I could leave (Huh?). So I said OK, give me my money back and I don’t want to wait anymore. He said no refunds so keep waiting. After exactly 21 minutes I was handed my French fries (not exactly fast food)…. And complained to the manager who pretended not to hear me (and the 10 around me who were also complaining).

This brand was tremendously damaged in my mind  - damaged by foolish employees (and as a business owner I’d fire both of these individuals for their behavior… as I am sure many others would.) Train your employees properly… or maybe you are wasting a lot of money on building brands.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT….

Friday, November 9th, 2007

As an entrepreneur I see different business ideas every single day… Why is is that no one has yet invented healthy food to be sold in airports ?

Yesterday at 10 AM at Kennedy Airport, my choices were McDonalds, Chinese food or day old bagels. I wanted granola, salad or wholewheat bread… I can’t help but think any company who created health (or even non junk) food would make a killing in the airport.

Food for thought.
