Had never before been a fan of actor Russell Brand – but wow what an amazing segment on “Morning Joe” on MSNBC. As the hosts of the program made fun of his British accent, spoke of him in the 3rd person and then mentioned his closing, seemingly he took over.
Anyone who works in public relations and has ever media trained someone would kvell as he turned the tables and said “You’re talking about me as if I’m not here and as if I’m an extraterrestrial.” “Thank you for your casual objectification.”
Headline after headline in the media speaks of how he “took over”, and turned what is usually a boring celebrity media junket into some sort of cultural commentary about how to focus on what is important. As Brand noted “That’s the problem with current affairs. You forget about what’s important and you allow the agenda to be decided by superficial information.”
Frankly, the hosts were rude and he handled it in an amazing way and turned the tables. This scores him major points and will do great things for the Russell Brand “brand.” And hey, Russell if the acting gig doesn’t work out you are very employable as a media trainer for any PR agency.
“PR is a mix of journalism,
psychology, and lawyering - it’s an ever-changing and always interesting landscape.”
