Ron,

I just want to be brief. I enjoyed your article. My hat is off to you. I sometimes wish I had lived through the tough life that you lived through. I think it makes a person stronger and more resolute. I felt there was one thing that you said that perhaps you might have second thoughts about. You said, "I promised myself my children would never want for anything." I think that it was your own "want" that drove you to succeed. I think that too many kids don't have it hard enough. This is why they get lazy and don't want to go to school and excel. This is why we rate so low on academic scales. There are too many parents who have borrowed themselves into pretended prosperity. Their children see this and think that they should have all the same electroncs and toys and conveniences as their parents, including the new house and new car and the latest cell phone.

No, I think that it is important to build a little want into our kids. Make them work hard for what they get so they don't end up with rich kid syndrome.

Great entry, Ronn. We have quite a similiar situation in Lithuania, where in December-January taxes were being increased nearly every week. Now we suffer the consequences by cutting salaries, laying off our agency staff, looking for alternative ways of paying salaries.

What government has reached results in numerous cases of bancrupcy, growth of so called shadow economy and raising unemployment.

Anyway, best luck for you and please continue blogging, your straight to the point posts give inspiration even in far away Lithuania!
