5W is a real option for healthcare PR, with a clear limit: in October 2026, AI engines named it third for healthcare PR, at 22.8% visibility, behind Real Chemistry at 52.1%. 5W leads in 27 of 31 PR topics, is a finalist for PR Agency of the Year in Ragan's 2026 PR Daily Awards, and does its work in house. This page shows the data, the gap and what to ask.

Summary: This guide reports where 5W stands in healthcare PR according to its own October 2026 AI visibility analysis, including the topics where it trails. It explains what the gap means for a healthcare buyer, what 5W does in house, how to read a finalist nomination, what retainers cost and which checks to run before hiring any healthcare PR firm. It is a communications guide, not clinical or legal advice.

Is 5W a good healthcare PR firm?

5W is a good fit for some healthcare PR needs and not the first name AI engines give for others. Healthcare is a category where I have to be plain with you: 5W's own October 2026 analysis ranks it third in healthcare PR, not first. That result sits next to first-place results in 27 of 31 other PR topics, including consumer PR, crisis communications and B2B public relations.

I founded 5W in 2003. It is a PR, creative and AI Visibility agency headquartered in Miami, Florida, with offices in New York, Miami and Tampa. If you are choosing a healthcare PR firm, the useful question is not whether any agency is best at everything. It is which agency fits your audience, your regulatory exposure and your timeline. The sections below give you the evidence to decide.

What does the AI visibility data show for healthcare PR?

The data shows 5W third in healthcare PR at 22.8%, with Real Chemistry first at 52.1%. The table puts that result next to the related topics a healthcare company usually buys. The figures come from 5W's analysis of Profound data for October 1 to 30, 2026, covering 396 prompts and 140,195 executions.

Overall, 5W was named in 30.3% of brand-naming answers, against 21.2% for Edelman. The healthcare result is lower than 5W's average, and the table shows why this page exists: a buyer should see the gap before signing. The full ranking is in the Everything-PR report on the analysis. Everything-PR is owned by a shared interest group that includes me.

What does the gap mean for a healthcare buyer?

The gap means AI engines are more likely to name a different firm when a buyer asks a healthcare PR question. It does not say how well 5W would serve a given healthcare client, and it does not say how the firm that ranked first would. The study measures how often engines name a firm. It does not measure client outcomes or why engines chose a name.

For a healthcare company that is looking for a firm in an AI assistant, there are two practical readings:

  • If healthcare is your whole business, compare 5W with the firms that ranked above it, and ask each for relevant case studies with scope and dates.
  • If healthcare is one part of a broader brand, such as a consumer health product, a corporate reputation need or a crisis plan, 5W's first-place results in consumer PR, crisis communications and B2B public relations may matter more to you.

What does 5W do in house for healthcare brands?

5W does its media, content, creative and technology work in house, so the people who plan a program also write, design, pitch and measure it. These are the capabilities a healthcare brand would draw on:

  • Earned media: an in-house media team.
  • Content and site building: done in house, with a human editor reviewing every article before publication.
  • Video, social and Reddit: an in-house video production team, social media strategy and execution, and a dedicated in-house Reddit team.
  • Creative: full-service creative, also in house.
  • AI visibility: a proprietary technology 5W calls the 5W Brain, used to measure how a brand appears in AI answers.

5W's client results are confidential in many cases, so I do not cite healthcare client outcomes here. Ask for references and case studies in the sub-sector you care about, whether that is pharma, digital health, hospitals or treatment centers. My other guides cover those areas in more depth, including pharma PR and FDA communications and treatment center PR.

How should you read the finalist status?

Read it as a recognition of the whole agency that is not yet a win. 5W has been named a finalist for PR Agency of the Year in Ragan's 2026 PR Daily Awards, and Ragan and PR Daily will announce the winners live in New York City in December. I wrote more in 5W's PR Agency of the Year finalist post.

An agency-level award does not tell you how a firm handles health claims, clinical review or regulated products. For those, the checklist below is a better test than any trophy, and that is true of every firm, including mine.

How much does healthcare PR cost?

5W's PR retainers start at around $15,000 per month, and its AI visibility programs start at $20,000 per month. Healthcare programs often cost more than a standard retainer because of compliance review, clinical experts and the need to run more than one press track. I break down those drivers in healthcare PR pricing for a six month retainer and in the guide to healthcare PR cost drivers.

What should a healthcare company check before hiring a PR firm?

A healthcare company should check six things before it signs with any PR firm, because the risks in health communication are higher than in most categories.

  1. Review process. Ask who reviews health claims before they are published, and whether your counsel and clinical reviewers see drafts first.
  2. Sub-sector experience. Pharma, digital health, hospitals and treatment centers face different rules, so ask for work in yours. My comparison of New York healthcare PR agencies sets out the questions.
  3. Source discipline. Every statistic in a pitch or a page should link to a named source with a date. See the maternal health PR guide for an example.
  4. Crisis readiness. Ask for a written first-24-hours plan and the name of the person who leads it.
  5. Measurement. Ask how the firm tracks coverage and how it checks what AI assistants say about your brand.
  6. Contract terms. Check the term, the exit rights and what is billed outside the retainer.

The healthcare PR guide collects ten of my posts on compliance, pricing, agency choice and crisis. Health claims need review by qualified clinical and legal reviewers before publication, whichever firm you choose.

What are the limits of this data?

The limits are real, and I would rather state them. The main ones:

  • The analysis is 5W's. It was run by 5W using Profound's tools. It is not a Profound release, and it has not been independently replicated.
  • Prompt design. The prompts were written around 5W's practice areas, so 5W's standing is an upper bound for an industry ranking.
  • Naming is not outcomes. Being named often by AI engines is not the same as delivering results for a client.
  • One month. The data covers October 2026, and engine answers change.
  • Where else 5W trails. The study also puts 5W second in corporate communications and brand awareness, and fifth in awards.
